The arts scene in The Natural State is booming. New art galleries, museums, community theatres, concert venues and other popular art destinations seem to be opening almost daily. We’re making it easy for you to find your area of interest, whether it be performing or visual arts.
The opening in November 2011 of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville sent shock-waves throughout the art world. The extraordinary collection, compiled by Walmart heiress Alice Walton, is housed in a piece of art itself that is sure to become one America’s most recognizable art destinations. Designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, the glass and wood structure highlights man’s art indoors and nature’s art outdoors. Best of all, admission is free.
Several towns across the state, including Little Rock, North Little Rock, Conway, Eureka Springs, Bentonville, Hot Springs and Russellville, offer gallery walks to showcase their shops. Both Eureka Springs and Hot Springs have been selected by various publications as some of the best small art towns in the country.
Performing arts in The Natural State range from community theatres and traveling Broadway shows to symphony orchestras and ballet companies. Venues for popular entertainment are flourishing as well, running the gamut from the 18,000-seat Verizon Arena in North Little Rock to small halls in the best small art towns in Arkansas, such as the Lily Peter Auditorium in Helena-West Helena. Opera is even offered in Eureka Springs.
Stunning work by outdoor artists complement our beautiful natural scenery. Sculpture gardens are found in Fayetteville, Little Rock and Conway, among others.
