58th Annual Saunder’s Memorial Shoot
If you like old fashioned black powder guns, here’s an event for you. The 58th annual Saunder’s Memorial Shoot will be held Sept. 26- 29 at the Luther Owens Shooting Range in Berryville. This event is for black powder rifles, shotguns, and pistols. Shooting starts at noon on the 26th and goes until about 4 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, shooting is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Camping is available for $10 per camp. There is a $5 fee for electricity.
You’ll also find vendors selling black powder, guns, knives, jewelry, and other items. The Boy Scouts will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The event commemorates two figures in Arkansas gun history – C.B. “Buck” Saunders and his close friend Luther Owens. Saunders, who died in 1952, was a Carroll County man who became a world traveler. He was also a collector of historical items, especially firearms, and you can see that incredible collection at Saunders Museum in Berryville. Owens, who died in 1977, formed a muzzle loader shooting club and developed the shooting range on land left to the city by Saunders.
