This year’s USA Triathlon (USAT) Off-Road National Championships takes place in Arkadelphia June 4. The race entails a 1.5 km swim, 19.5-mile mountain bike section, and 6.2-mile trail run. It is also an opportunity for racers to qualify for the 2018 ITU Cross Tri World Championships.

“If you are looking for clean and clear water to swim in, a truly championship mountain bike and run course, then you will find it here in Arkansas,” said long-time race director Fred Phillips of DLT Event Management via a news release statement. “DeGray Lake is rated as one of the top 10 ten cleanest, freshwater lakes in America. The Iron Mountain Trail System is a championship level course providing a 19.5-mile single lap bike course.”

Companion events to the race include a Lake Sprint Off-Road Tri on June 3 and a 1,500-meter open water swim in DeGray Lake on June 4, both which are geared towards first timers and friends and partners of racers who are at the event.

While in town, participants can also check out three nearby International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) biking trails: the Womble Trail, Ouachita National Recreation Trail, and Lake Ouachita Vista Trail.  Hot Springs National Park is about a 30-minute drive away from DeGray Lake and Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro is about 45 minutes away. DeGray Lake is also home to DeGray Lake Resort State Park.
