DeGray Lake Resort State Park Opens New Disc Golf Course
We have gotten word that DeGray Lake Resort State Park’s new disc golf course opens this Friday- July 4. Disc golf, which is also called frisbee golf, is a popular sport nationwide. There will be a brief grand opening ceremony at the park visitor center at 9 a.m. Friday morning to officially open the course for play.
According to Joan Ellison, Public Information Officer for Arkansas State Parks, this is the first disc golf course in the Arkansas state park system.
According to information sent by DeGray Lake Resort Park Interpreter Jason Parrie via a news release, the course was designed by Arkansas native Matt Loyd of Full Blown Discs in Bryant. Loyd is an avid disc golf competitor and a professional disc golf course designer.
According to the news release the free course is set along the shoreline of DeGray Lake and ‘winds its way through a mixed forest, while traversing rolling hills, across open fields, and over streams. With the front nine and back nine each beginning and ending at the park visitor center, guests have snacks, drinks, and restrooms available. Loaner disc golf sets and discs for purchase will be available at the visitor center for those without the essential equipment.’
The release also mentions that the course varies in terrain and degree of difficulty and has features such as concrete tee pads, the Innova DISCatcher Pro targets and custom tee signs with equipment hooks
“The layout offers a nice mix of features, Loyd said in the news release. “I’m particularly happy with hole # 18 and its raised basket design. That’s the course’s signature hole and there just aren’t many like it around the country.”
Beginning July 4 the course will be open daily during daylight hours. The course is free and open to the public. The park is also home to an 18-hole championship golf course.
