Free Summer Concert Series in El Dorado Announced
Heads up on two free shows this summer that are part of the Showtime Concert Series. The series is free to the public and includes national music artists performing outside in downtown El Dorado.
According to a news release sent by Main Street El Dorado, the shows will start each scheduled night ( July 27 and August 31) at 7 pm with pre-event music on the Showtime Stage and the headliner taking the stage at 8. The event follows the popular Showdown at Sunset performances taking place at 6 each scheduled night. Showdown at Sunset is a historical reenactment of the legendary Marshal Tucker-Parnell Brothers gunfight that takes place on the steps of the ornate Union County Courthouse in the center of Union Square at 101 N. Washington Street.
The first show in the series is on Saturday, July 27 with a concert featuring Grammy-nominated country star Eric Paslay.
Singer / Songwriter Paslay co-wrote “Friday Night”, performed by Lady Antebellum as well as Jake Owen’s #1 hit “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” and wrote “Even if it Breaks Your Heart”” for the Eli Young Band, nominated for a Grammy by the CMA for 2012 Best Country Song. Paslay has opened for Little Big Town, The Eli Young Band, Jake Owen, and many others. In 2011 EMI Records signed him to their roster and released his debut single “Never Really Wanted” followed by the 2012 release of “If the Fish Don’t Bite”.
The second performance is Saturday August 31 with rising country start Tyler Farr. His current single “Redneck Crazy” is Farr’s first Top-20 single and his third single to chart. The song’s popular video ( featured below) has Willie Robertson from Duck Dynasty fame in it along with Colt Ford and Lee Brice.
According to copy from the Grand Old Opry website, ‘Farr was born and raised in the small town of Garden City, Missouri. The singer was first introduced to country music at age 16, when he spent a summer on the road with his stepfather, who played lead guitar for country icon George Jones. Farr grew to love country music, and he decided to make the move to Nashville to pursue a career as an artist.
He landed a job working as a bouncer at the legendary Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge for five months until he was able to convince the management to let him sing. For the next few years, he would play the Tootsie’s stage four nights a week, in addition to working security at the door. An avid outdoorsman, Farr found a friend in award-winning songwriter and fellow outdoorsman, Rhett Akins. Rhett had heard some of Farr’s music, and he wanted to work with him. After writing with some of the best songwriters in Nashville, Farr eventually landed a publishing deal with Sony ATV/Monument Publishing, and it was that connection that ultimately helped him land his recording contract on Sony Music Nashville’s BNA Records.
In addition to recording and songwriting, Farr has toured extensively with Colt Ford, for whom Tyler wrote the song, “Hey Y’all,” as well as opening for Jerrod Niemann and Lee Brice in early 2011 on The Higher Education Tour.’ In early 2012, Farr released his debut single, “Hot Mess”, which he co-wrote with Rhett Akins.
The concert series comes cares of Main Street El Dorado, Murphy USA and KIX 103. In other news, on June 29 the town will dedicate a new mobile Showtime Stage with a children’s/family event that morning followed by a formal dedication by local officials. A mariachi band (Mariachi Michoacán) will perform in the afternoon, the Parnell-Tucker reenactment that evening followed by a street dance that night with Windstorm from Shreveport, Louisiana.
