Full Week of Spring Break Activities at Woolly Hollow State Park
Parents, are you tired of being cooped up with all the wacky winter weather we’ve had? If you are, imagine how your kids feel. Woolly Hollow State Park near Greenbrier has the perfect solution for you. From March 24-28, the park hosts School’s Out, Parks Are In! for spring break. The schedule is jammed packed and will keep children entranced while they explore the outdoors.
Here’s what’s on the schedule.
Monday, March 24: Listen as snail, mushroom, catfish, warbler and other creatures and plants are called and you may win Nature Bingo. Meet at the flag pole for a rousing game from 11 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Meet back at the flag pole at 3 p.m. for an Animal Track Attack. Learn which species leave what footprints as you wander through the woods.
Tuesday, March 25: During Wings-A-Flurry, you’ll join a park interpreter and learn how to make a flapping bird plus the basics of bird feeding. Be at the park snack bar patio at 11 a.m.
Discover the different types of eggs that are laid by the creatures that call the park home during the Egg I.D. Hunt. The flag pole is the place to be at 3 p.m.
Wednesday, March 26: Create a feeder for your fine feathered friends and increase the numbers that visit your yard. During Bird Feeder Frenzy, you’ll also learn about the various types of birds which will enjoy your new feeder. It all takes place at 11 .m. at the flag pole.
Put on your hiking boots then take part in a 3 p.m. photo scavenger hunt, beginning at the Huckleberry Trail head. You’ll follow the Woolly Hollow Cabin Trail (.5-mile) ending at the historic structure where you’ll get a brief tour.
Thursday, March 27: Do you know what a baby fox is called? Or wonder how big a newborn box turtle is? Meet the park interpreter at the snack bar patio at 11 a.m. to get the answers to these and other questions. You’ll also get to color a picture of various little beings during Baby Animals.
Butterflies and kites are a perfect spring duo. Come to the snack bar patio at 3 p.m. to make your own Flutter Kite to take home.
Friday, March 28: Join the park interpreter at the snack bar patio to discover various spring flowers during Woolly Hollow in Bloom. During the 11 a.m. event, you’ll also create your own special blossom.
End the day and the week by gathering for the Woolly Campfire and S’mores on the park swim beach. Bring your own lawn chair and musical instrument if you have one and celebrate with your fellow campers.
