The Great Arkansas Travelers Scavenger Hunt

For baseball fans, the winter months can feel like one long, scoreless inning spent yearning for the sights, sounds and excitement of your favorite sport. But the Arkansas Travelers have devised a fun new way to stay involved with the team during the off-season in the form of a giant scavenger hunt in which teams can compete to win one of several stellar prize packages (and yes, all of them include Travs tickets).

Here’s how it works: The Travs will provide a list of “clues”—challenges or activities to be completed—and teams of up to six people must photograph or video-record themselves completing them between December 1st and January 1st and post the evidence to a private team Facebook page created specially for the hunt. Each activity has a point value, and whichever team has the most points at the end of the day on January 1st wins the grand prize, which includes full season tickets (with associated privileges such as a parking pass, private event invitations and early gate entry), a selection of Travs merchandise, the opportunity to throw a ceremonial pitch before a game, and a team photo and link to team Facebook page labeled “Reigning Champions” posted to the Travs website for the entire 2018 season. And each member of the teams gets all of that—the whole package is valued at close to $3,000! There are also prize packages for second and third place, as well as ten runner-up prizes.

So, how far over backwards will you have to bend on film in order to score those points? Well, I swore a vow of secrecy with the team, so I cannot tell you and I will not tell you no matter what you offer me—after all, it’s not fair play if some people know the challenges before others. But I can share with you some totally fabricated examples that may or may not be tangentially related to activities somewhat similar to the actual challenges, which are broken into the following categories (and this part is true): Travs Trivia, Just for Fun, Physical Challenges, Friends and Partners, Good Samaritan, Travs Travels, Community Service, and Family Fun. So, for instance, a Physical Challenge could be (but definitely is not) something like doing a cartwheel in a baseball field; a Good Samaritan activity could (not) be taking out your neighbor’s trash or raking their leaves. The Travs Trivia category is made up of “non-Google-able” questions, and the Travs Travels challenges are to be done while on vacation. Families, couples, individuals, friend groups and office teams are all welcome to participate—the activities are appropriate for all ages, and many of them have a do-gooder bent, so you’ll be making the world a nicer place while you rack up those points.

Here are the official rules:

“The Great Arkansas Travelers Scavenger Hunt (GATSH) will begin on December 1st, 2017 at 5pm CST and end at 5pm CST on January 1st, 2018. Submissions made after January 1st, 2018 at 5pm CST will not be counted towards your total score. Any person can participate as an individual or as a team. Teams may consist of up to 6 people. Sportsmanship and honesty are key to every game. While playing the scavenger hunt game DO NOT engage in ANY dangerous, hazardous, disrespectful, malicious, or felonious acts of any kind. Be safe, polite, and respect others at all times. All submissions must NOT include any lude or crude images or videos of any kind. Do not break any laws of any kind while playing the scavenger hunt game. All submissions must be created and submitted during the scavenger hunt time frame. You may not use any images or videos collected before 12/1/17 in your submissions.

To participate, you must create your team, create your private team Facebook page and invite only the Arkansas Travelers Facebook page to like it (nobody else—your team’s page is just for you and the Travs!), and register your team using the form that can be found at www.Travs.com or on the Travelers Facebook page, emailing it to [email protected] or faxing it to 501-664-1834. Don’t forget to include your team’s Facebook URL on your registration form! Registration begins November 15 at 5 p.m.

Rules for submissions are as follows:

“To submit a completed action or item, you must create a post on your team’s private Facebook page. When submitting your evidence of a completed action or item, you must begin the Facebook post with the item number and description of the item your team is attempting to complete. Submissions can be posted in any order; you do not need to complete the actions and items in numerical order. Submissions must be original to your team.”

Don’t worry if you can’t complete an item—partial points will be awarded for evidence of attempts, so you should at least give it a try. And most importantly, HAVE FUN!
