Ice Skating Rink on Bentonville Square Opens Nov. 22

Lawrence Plaza is a 7,000-square-foot multi-use facility located just north of the Bentonville square at the corner of NE “A” and Blake St. What makes it special is that it is a refreshing place to cool off in the summer as a splash park, but in the winter it turns into a scene from the movie, Frozen, when the ice skating rink opens up.

The Rink season runs this year from Nov. 22 to Jan. 19. You can rent skates here, pay by the skate session or buy a season pass. In addition to ice skating, The Bentonville Parks and Recreation Department offers Frosty’s Flicks throughout the winter season with family-friendly, holiday-themed movies shown on a 25-foot inflatable outdoor screen. The Rink is definitely a winter fun spot for all ages.

While you’re in Bentonville, stop in and check out the art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. An art trail leading to the museum is located across the street from The Rink. The museum is a premier art institution dedicated to American art and artists, learning and community gatherings. The main pavilions contain a permanent collection of American art masterworks from the colonial era to modern day, and touring collections from national art institutions.

A main attraction on the square is the Walmart Museum. The museum is housed in Sam Walton’s original variety store, which now traces the origin and growth of Walmart. The center was created as an educational and informative facility about this American retailing success story.

Ice skating and walking a trail or the downtown square are fun ways to stay warm on a cool winter day. There are plenty of great places to eat on the square as well.
