Included in the lineup were “ towns with ample trailheads, nearby adventure, great farmers’ markets, and a competitive gear-shop scene.”

Other towns that made the list included Honolulu, Hawaii, Chicago, Illinois, and San Diego, California.

Attractions that got attention included the Arkansas River Trail System, a recreation trail that runs along both sides of the Arkansas River and Pinnacle Mountain State Park, which was set aside in 1977 as Arkansas’s first state park adjoining a major metropolitan area. Local runner Leah Thorvilson, who has won the Little Rock Marathon multiple times and ran in the 2012 US Olympic Team Marathon Trials, also was quoted in the article.

Little Rock has been harnessing a lot of positive press lately including the top ranking in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance list of ’10 Great Places to Live in 2013′  for small and mid-size cities. Forbes also named Central Arkansas in their list this year of ‘Best Places for Business and Careers’.
