Make this summer a page-turner
The Central Arkansas Library System‘s annual Summer Reading Club is here again with another season jam-packed with programs and prize opportunities taking place every day at your local library. Beginning on June 12 and running through July 31, participants can check out library materials, attend sessions and complete activities for chances to win prizes.
Registration begins on May 30, and anyone who registers can visit the library after July 1 to pick up a free ticket to Library Night at the Arkansas Travelers on July 20! See—you’re already winning, and you haven’t even checked out a book yet.
The theme of this year’s club is “Build a Better World,” and program topics revolve around things like volunteerism, ecology, conservation, construction and engineering. While there is no reading required to take part in the program, reading books (especially on topics related to the theme!) can help you win prizes. This year, a new online registration and participation system makes it very easy to keep track of your club participation.
You can receive personalized book recommendations and weekly e-mails detailing club programs and events. Visit the site to log books read and activities completed, earning badges and prizes along the way. Activities and book lists are age-appropriate; weekly programs feature things like crafts, LEGO play, storytime, board games, movie days, S.T.E.A.M. activities and more, and take place at 14 branch libraries. Events and programs at any branch count towards participation in the club, so feel free to explore libraries beyond your local neighborhood!
In addition to weekly programs, the library offers a rotating schedule of special presentations and performances from local favorites like Brian and Terri Kinder, Arkansas Travelers’ mascots Ace and Otey, magician Tommy Terrific and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. You could while away the whole summer having a blast in air-conditioned comfort, learning new things and winning prizes to boot—all without spending a dime!
