Mid-America Science Museum Reopens March 7!

02/09/2015

The Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs reopens March 7! The museum has been closed since last summer to allow work on expanding the museum. The expansion comes thanks to a $7.8 million capital grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation to renovate the museum’s building and exhibits.

Visitors to the museum will be greeted with new workshop and exhibit stations, a new digital dome theater, and new sights like the Bob Wheeler Science Skywalk and the Arkansas Underfoot gallery, which gives an inside peek at the biology and geology unique to Arkansas.

Along with new attractions, visitors will also find a few familiar and longtime favorite museum attractions still on site- like the Tesla Coil (according to Guinness World Records, the museum has the world’s most powerful Tesla Coil! 1.5 million volts of electricity spark from it), the Mastadon Skeleton, and the Featherstone Kite Openwork Basketweave Mark 2 Gentleman’s Flying Machine–or as I like to call it, ‘the flying bicycle man contraption’ I remember from when I was a kid!

The Mid-America Science Museum is located at 500 Mid America Boulevard. For more details call 501-767-3461 or visit midamericamuseum.org.
