Shiloh Museum of Ozark History April Offerings

Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale is a small museum with a lot of history and heart. Nestled in a park-like, two-acre wooded setting, the Shiloh Museum offers exhibits, programs, special events, a research library, photos and collections about the Arkansas Ozarks, historic buildings, museum store, and picnic tables. Additionally, it has some of the finest, dedicated staff members in the state. Admission is free. If you haven’t been here, it’s worth a visit. If you have kids, take them; they’ll love it too.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Estate Planning Seminar

An estate-planning seminar will be held Friday, April 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. Speakers include April Rusch, trust officer with Arvest Assessment Management; Todd Whatley, attorney with the Elder Law Practice of Whatley & Elrod, PLLC; and John Henry Ogden, agent with Farmer’s Insurance Group. Co-sponsored by the Shiloh Museum and Arvest Bank, the seminar is free, and a light lunch will be provided. Preregistration is requested.

Reed Family Exhibit

Their Story, Our Story, an exhibit on the Jarvis and Elizabeth Reed family of Springdale, opens Monday, April 8 at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. “Over the span of a century, from about 1850 to 1950, three generations of Reeds in Springdale lived and died, worked and played, married and raised families, went to church and school, moved away and came home,” said Susan Young, museum outreach coordinator. “Looking at the Reed story gives us an opportunity to consider the ways in which family history plays a role in the bigger picture of state and local history.”

The exhibit will be on display through November 3. Located at 118 W. Johnson Avenue in downtown Springdale, the Shiloh Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and admission is free. For more information, call 750-8165 or visit shilohmuseum.org.

Pettigrew Day

Pettigrew Day, an old fashioned reunion for friends and residents of Madison County, will be held Saturday, April 13 at the historic Pettigrew Community Building located 40 miles east of Fayetteville on Arkansas state highway 16. Sponsored by the community of Pettigrew and the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, this year’s theme focuses on the history of water resources in the region.

Activities begin at 1:00 p.m. The Madison County Genealogical and Historical Society will be on hand to answer local history questions. Folks are invited to bring in photos and documents related to the history of Madison County to share. Historical Society volunteers will be available to scan photos and documents for inclusion in their collection.

A benefit supper for the upkeep of the community building will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children under 12. At 6:30 p.m., Dr. Robert Morgan, manager of environmental quality at Beaver Water District, will discuss the history of Northwest Arkansas’s water supply from the late 1800s to the present. Depression-Era Arkansas

“Poorest of the Poor,” a program on residents of Arkansas’s mountain regions during the Great Depression, will be presented by University of Arkansas professor of journalism Patsy Watkins, Wednesday, April 17 at noon at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. MONTHLY MEETINGS
Writing Group

LifeWriters, a group for people interested in writing the stories of their own lives or those of family and friends, will meet Monday, April 1 and Monday, April 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.
