Ballet Arkansas celebrates 40 years

Ballet Arkansas, one of the leading ballet companies in the state, is celebrating a 40th anniversary season this year. The Little Rock based company is home to a artists and dancers that present classical, neoclassical, and contemporary works by world renowned choreographers.

“Ballet Arkansas’ 40th anniversary season is a perfect time to honor our past and forge new pathways that will last for the next 40 years,” said Associate Artistic Director Catherine Fothergill via a news release. “We strive to provide our community with a variety of enriching and exhilarating programming, both educational and collaborative.”

Tickets for performances are on sale now. The main stage production season beings with performances of Dracula at UA – Pulaski Technical Center’s Center for Humanities and Arts (CHARTS) at 3000 West Scenic Drive in North Little Rock October 19-21. Based on Bram Stoker’s telling, this production is a story ballet with original choreography by Artistic Director Michael Fothergill.

Next on the lineup is the 40th annual Nutcracker Spectacular set for December 7-9 at Robinson Performance Hall at 426 West Markham in Little Rock. The production features live music by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and a community cast of over 200 children and adults.

Fire and Rain will be shown at the CHARTS Theater at UA Pulaski Tech on February 14-17, 2019. It combines classical ballet with contemporary dance.

The final main stage production of the season is called Forte and features a collaboration with internationally acclaimed musician Dr. Drew Mays. This production will also be at the CHARTS Theater at UA Pulaski Tech on May 3-5, 2019. This program features prolific classical and contemporary works like Swan Lake Suite.
