North Central

Local Favorites

The North Central part of the state is prime Ozark region real estate and, therefore, home to some of the finest trail systems in America. The IMBA Epic Syllamo Trail, nestled in the Sylamore District of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest, provides 50 miles of prime Ozark trails for all-day riding or shorter tours. This mountainous terrain also features Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes, the Spring and White rivers and other great respites after a day of fun riding. The White is a well-known trout fishing stream. Bull Shoals-White River State Park is also here and offers camping — including tent and RV sites — for those who enjoy sleeping under the stars..

Pigeon Creek Park Trail System
Just minutes from Mountain Home on Ark. 201 N. at Pigeon Creek Park is a stacked loop trail system that offers more than 20 miles of off-road bicycling along the shoreline area of Lake Norfork. Depending on trail length and difficulty bikers choose, routes take you through deep ravines with large out crops of limestone shelves and up aromatic cedar glades or along a creek bank lined with pine trees up to expansive hill top views. The Pigeon Creek Trail system was added to the National Recreational Trail program in June of 2001. One of the annual Arkansas Mountain Bike Championship Series events, the Pigeon Roast race is held here each spring. Here is a link to a trail map and other helpful information: http://www.norfork.com/cycling/trails/index.htm

Oakridge Mountain Bike Trail
Oakridge Mountain Bike Trail is a multi-use trail for hikers and mountain bikers. Accessing remote areas of Bull Shoals-White River State Park, the trail traverses the oak-hickory upland forest, dirt roads, open meadows, and crosses creeks. The loop trail allows users to choose from two levels of difficulty. The clockwise route, marked with blue blazes, is moderately difficult with strenuous uphill slopes. Counter-clockwise, marked with green blazes, is moderately easy. Rental bikes are available near the trailhead at the Camper Registration Center in the park and bicycle helmets are strongly recommended.
