Northwest

Local Favorites

With so much great riding across the state, it’s hard to play favorites. But Northwest Arkansas is up there on our list of top mountain biking destinations. The timeless Ozark Mountains and the beloved Buffalo National River are located here and offer all sorts of outdoor activities. In a charming location nestled among peaks and valleys, discover hundreds of miles of classic singletrack with new trails added all the time. A claim to fame of the region is Slaughter Pen near Bentonville, a technical 20-mile ride along rocky hillsides that many consider among the best mountain bike trails in the region. Another crown jewel is the 40-mile Upper Buffalo, one of the newer Epic-rated rides as designated by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). IMBA also recognizes two towns in the region as Ride Centers— one in Bentonville and one in Fayetteville. The riding here suits every type of rider, from beginners looking for an easy loop to intermediate and advanced riders seeking a difficult trail for training. With excellent restaurants, attractions and bike shops in the area, it’s a place that really gets it when it comes to supporting and growing the local cycling scene and culture. Click on any of the trails listed below to read trail descriptions, see maps, distance, difficulty, trailhead location and riding tips.
