Arkansas State Parks Update

Zoie Clift

News just came from Joan Ellison of Arkansas State Parks
that due to the repeated severe weather and rain events our state has been
experiencing, it has become necessary to close some Arkansas State Parks
facilities. And, in the case of Hampson Museum
Archeological State Park, Lake Ouachita State Park, Jacksonport State Park, and
Pinnacle Mountain State Park, they’ve closed the entire park temporarily. As
the effects of today’s and tomorrow’s additional rainfall unfold, other park
facilities will likely be added to this list.

Parks with “specific facility”
temporary closures include Devil’s Den State Park and Lake Catherine State
Park. Queen Wilhelmina State Park Lodge is closed today (May 2) and tomorrow
while plumbing contractors make repairs in the park restaurant.

Lake Catherine State Park: The lower portion of Campground
Area “C,” the marina, and hiking trails at Lake Catherine State Park
are closed temporarily beginning today May 2, due to rising lake levels from
heavy rains. The rest of the park facilities remain open. For updates, contact
the park at: 501-844-4176. Also of note, Lake Ouachita State Park is closed
temporarily beginning April 25 due to damage from severe weather. Storm damage
in the park includes downed trees and power lines. This closure includes the
entire park. For updates, contact the state parks director’s office in Little
Rock at: 501-682-1191 For the most up-to-date information on any temporary
closures, visit the Special Notice section of at:
