Back to Nature: Lock Tour or Herbs

My Tuesday blogs are dedicated to experiencing the great outdoors. I’ll feature anything from park events to Natural State destinations worth seeing. Join me each week to get back to nature.

March has really flown by for me. The last weekend in the month is coming up and there are two great programs to help you explore nature, one dealing with water and the other with herbs.

A Lock Tour of the Arkansas River takes place Saturday, March 27. Join a park interpreter from Lake Dardanelle State Park in Russellville on the park’s tour boat to get a unique view of the lake as you motor down to the Corps of Engineers-Dardanelle Lock and Dam to see how it works. Space is limited and registration is required. Phone 479-967-5516 for details.

Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View will offer a Medicinal Herb Workshop and Herbal Field Trip in March. Board the folk center bus for an excursion to visit local herb businesses and hike to Ozark spring ephemeral wildflowers and useful plants on Friday, March 26. On Saturday, March 27 regional herbalists will present demonstrations and hands-on instruction on the chemistry and uses of essential oils and distillations. The class will be held in the Bois D’Arc Conference Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit or phone 870-269-3851 for more information.
