Beatles at the Ridge Festival This Weekend in Walnut Ridge

This Saturday, Sept. 15, the Beatles at the Ridge Festival and the 8th annual Iron Mountain Festival have joined forces to create one great festival experience in downtown Walnut Ridge. The event includes performances by the Liverpool Legends, Sonny Burgess, and Stan Perkins and the grand opening of the Guitar Walk at Cavenaugh Park.

Leading up to Saturday’s event, there will be an old-fashioned sing-a-long at Beatles Park at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14. A large Jumbotron will feature Mike Bowman’s documentary “The British Invasion of Walnut Ridge.” Afterwards, sing along to some of the Beatles’ favorite songs. Come dressed in 60s attire or as your favorite member of the Fab Four…prizes will be awarded for best costumes.

On Saturday, the fun starts off at 9 a.m. Activities will be held at locations throughout downtown Walnut Ridge. There’s something for everyone to see and enjoy! Activities include pony rides, a duck calling contest, a motorcycle show, a juried art show, a talent contest, a dog costume context, arts and crafts, and food vendors.

The dedication of the Guitar Walk at Cavenaugh Park (pictured left under construction) is scheduled for 3 p.m. The 115- foot-long by 40-foot-wide guitar, based on an Epiphone Casino played by John Lennon, honors the musicians that played along the nearby Rock ‘N Roll Highway 67. It features nine plaques dedicated to some of the country’s musical legends, including Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Sonny Burgess and Billy Lee Riley. Others will be added periodically. The intro plaque features audio from Gov. Mike Beebe discussing growing up along Rock ‘N’ Roll Highway 67 and the importance music has played in the history of Arkansas. Each plaque features biographical information about the artist as well as audio snippets.

The Rock ‘N’ Roll Stage kicks off at 4 p.m. and offers performances by the Liverpool Legends, Sonny Burgess and the Legendary Pacers, and Stan Perkins.
