Cooking with the Dutch Oven

For some reason, food just seems to taste better when it’s prepared outside. There’s just something about cooking in the great outdoors that seems to “season” the food!

This weekend, Delta Heritage Trail State Park in Barton is offering a Dutch Oven workshop on Saturday, April 24. Dutch ovens have been used throughout the world for over 300 years. Our American ancestors used them in the days before electric and gas stoves to prepare everything from breakfast to dinner entrees to desserts.

The workshop will cover all the basics of Dutch oven cooking – how to season the oven, how to care for piece, regulating the temperature of the vessel and tried-and-true recipes. Workshop participants will learn to cook a variety of mouth-watering items in the oven and get to sample the delicacies. Cost of the workshop is $45 and includes a Dutch oven to take home after the workshop.
