Elk of the Buffalo National River: A Closer Look at Arkansas

Jill M. Rohrbach

Those majestic elk roaming the Buffalo National River corridor are a beautiful sight to behold. Michael Dougherty will give a presentation titled, “Elk of the Buffalo National River: A Closer Look at Arkansas’ Largest Mammal,” on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at the Boone County Library in Harrison.

From 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Dougherty will share photographs and stories of his experiences observing the elk herd that calls the Buffalo River area its home.

Dougherty is a nature photographer, webmaster and free lance writer living in Newton County in Northwest Arkansas. His home borders the Ponca Wilderness of the Buffalo National River Park. His work is focused primarily on Arkansas nature photography, wildlife, and rural subjects within 100 miles of his home in Compton, Arkansas. He has written articles for Arkansas Wildlife Magazine, and is considered the leading elk photographer in Arkansas.
