Free Friday: La Petite Roche and Water Fun in Downtown Little Rock

Kerry Kraus

Little Rock’s famous namesake – La Petite Roche – has a brand-new park surrounding it. La Petite Roche Plaza  highlights the famous stone outcropping which gave the capital city its name. According to Little Rock tourism officials, one of the most frequently asked questions from visitors to the city is “Where is the ‘little rock’?”

It is now much easier to find and much more of a focal point for Little Rock. In addition to the rock itself, the park also includes a pathway that leads to the base of the Junction Bridge Pedestrian and Cycling Walkway where six panels explain the importance of the site.

After visiting, head to the nearby Peabody Park to play then cool-off in the water. You’ll find swing sets and merry-go-rounds in this area designed by children. But you’ll also find underground tunnels, a tube slide, a climbing wall, a space net, and a tree room. Then there’s the splash fountain where water sprays enhance the experience.

Head on down and have a free fun day in Little Rock.
