Geocaching Friday: Americana HWY 70 Power Trail

On Fridays, I’ll share some of my favorite geocaching spots throughout The Natural State. Even if you’re not a cacher, the Friday blogs will feature towns and attractions throughout the eastern section of Arkansas…perfect for a weekend trip!

Time to celebrate…it’s Friday!!

I have to admit, I haven’t found any of the caches that I’m discussing in today’s blog…because the caches were just published on Sunday!

This is a new geocaching power trail named Americana HWY 70. Caches run along U.S. HWY 70, which used to be one of the major transportation routes before Interstate 40. So far, there are…get ready for this!!!…174 caches in this power trail! WOW!!! I’ve emailed with one of the owners of the caches, and he tells me that they hope to finish up the remainder of the highway in West Memphis. They anticipate the power trail will eventually include nearly 400 caches!! Yes…I typed 400!!

U.S. 70 enters Arkansas near DeQueen. Once the highway reaches Little Rock, it parallels I-40 to West Memphis. Other communities along the route include Dierks, Hot Springs, Lonoke, DeValls BluffBrinkley and Forrest City.

This is going to be a great caching trail for The Natural State! It will also be a wonderful tourism tool for the communities that are included along the route. So this weekend, get out and cruise along Highway 70, grab some geocaches along the way and discover a part of Arkansas you might not have seen before!

Have a wonderful weekend!!
