Geocaching Friday: April Fools and April Ghouls Event

On Fridays, I’ll share some of my favorite geocaching spots throughout The Natural State. Even if you’re not a cacher, the Friday blogs will feature towns and attractions throughout the eastern section of Arkansas…perfect for a weekend trip!

I hope you’ve had a great week!

The April Fools and April Ghouls: Geocaching Along Arkansas’s Great River Road event is next weekend! We have 120 new caches in place.

The event kicks-off at 6:30 p.m. next Friday, April 1, in Arkansas City. We’ll meet at the Bear Claw, located at 911 Kate Adams Drive, for great refreshments. Afterwards, Desha County Judge Mark McElroy will give attendees a “haunted” tour of the courthouse.

The next morning, we all meet up in McGehee. Cachers will be given a list of the coordinates, which won’t go live on until after 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 2. After everyone caches throughout the afternoon, we meet up in downtown Lake Village for the announcement of the grand prizewinners for most caches found and who traveled the farthest.

The cacher who finds the most caches will win a one-night stay in Arkansas State Park lodging for two people (certain exclusions apply). The cacher who travels the farthest for the event wins a one-night stay for two in the newly renovated Holiday Inn in Blytheville, along with a $65 dinner voucher at Bistro Eleven 21 and breakfast in bed the next morning.

Door prizes will also be given away during the Saturday afternoon get-together, including travel mugs, t-shirts, soft-sided coolers, tote bags and items from local businesses.

We’ll also be giving away several Groundspeak Lackey coins during the event! Lackey coins are not too easy to come by. Normally the staff of Groundspeak gives them out when you visit their offices or a special Groundspeak event. But we were able to get our hands on a few for our event!

We’re also planning a new project along Arkansas’s Great River Road. It will be a month-long event, in conjunction with April Fools and April Ghouls caches. Next week’s Geocaching Friday blog will also give you more information on the project.

For more information, you can visit the April 1 event log here and the log for April 2 here. If you have questions, you can email me at We hope to see you there!!

Have a great weekend!!
