Geocaching Friday: Lower Arkansas Cache Trails, a GRR Caching Update

On Fridays, I’ll share some of my favorite geocaching spots and upcoming caching events throughout The Natural State. Even if you’re not a cacher, the Friday blogs will feature towns and attractions throughout the eastern section of Arkansas…perfect for a weekend trip!

Happy Friday!! It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Geocaching Friday blog, but don’t let that lead you to believe that caching in The Natural State has slowed down!

One of my favorite things about caching is the great people I meet. Justin Murphree is one of those people. Justin, known to the caching world as ArkFireMedic, is one of those hard-core cachers in Union County that I’ve written about before. Justin not only hunts caches (he was the 10th person to complete the intense Arkansas State Parks ParkCache series), he hides them as well. As of this posting, he’s found 2353 caches and “owns” over 300 of his own caches. (In comparison, I’ve found less than 500 and “own” 31!) Justin informed me recently that he had some folks in search of his “lower Arkansas” cache trail. There was BNW Team from California. They traveled to Arkansas to cache…and the trip completed their quest to cache in all 50 states! Another caching duo, Richard E and LadybugNY, are from New York and made their way to Arkansas to work on his caching trail. Same with Show Me the Cache from Kentucky. People are making their way from all over to The Natural State to experience these power trails! If anyone has ever wondered how geocaching impacts tourism, now you know! And thanks, Justin, for being such a great ambassador for geocaching in Arkansas!

Caching along Arkansas’s Great River Road has increased significantly since the fall temperatures set in. As of last Friday, the 31 caches (located along the Great River Road in the Arkansas Delta) have been found a total of 1,185 times! So to all those who have found all or any of these caches, thank you!! To those who haven’t, what are you waiting for?? We published two new caches in Marked Tree two weeks ago and we plan to keep adding new caches throughout the fall and winter.

And speaking of new caches, we have a few new ones in Helena-West Helena! Thanks to HogFan360, there are seven brand-new caches (all within the last few weeks!) to find when you visit the region. I’m always excited to have new cachers in the area!

I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday…although I find it hard to believe that it’s less than a week away! Have some turkey, watch some football…and go grab a few caches! If you go caching, it might get you out of doing the dishes!! Have a great weekend!!!
