If you’ve never geocached but would like to learn, here’s a opportunity for you! Village Creek State Park in Wynne is hosting a Geocaching 101 workshop on March 26. You’ll learn the basics of geocaching, including how to use a GPS to find a cache, trackable items such as travel bugs and geocoins and tips to make caching an enjoyable activity for the entire family. I’ll be part of the workshop, along with Village Creek’s wonderful interpreter, Tara. We’d love to have you join us! You can contact Village Creek State Park at 870-238-9406 for more information or to register for the free workshop.
Our April Fools and April Ghouls geocaching event is coming along great! Starting next week, we’ll be placing 120 NEW caches along the Great River Road National Scenic Byway in Chicot and Desha Counties. I’m SO excited about this event. We hope to bring geocachers from around the region to southeast Arkansas. The event is scheduled for April 1-2.
One of the prizes that will be given away is a 2007 Lackey geocoin. Employees of Groundspeak are the only ones who give out these coins. We’re REALLY excited to have one to give to one lucky geocacher. Several Arkansas State Parks geocoins will be hidden in several of the new caches, waiting to be taken along on a new caching adventure! There will be lots of door prizes and THREE special grand prizes for the most First to Finds, the most caches found and the cacher who traveled the farthest.
The event is scheduled for April 1-2, with events taking place in Arkansas City, McGehee and Lake Village. You can find out more about the event by clicking here. You can also view the event log for Friday evening here and Saturday here. If you have questions about the event, email me at DeltaTraveler@gmail.com.
Have a GREAT weekend!
