It’s Faulkner County Fair Time

Kerry Kraus

It’s fair time in Arkansas! The time when we all get to be kids again and eat things that aren’t good for us but, oh boy, do we love fair food.
The new Faulkner County Fairgrounds in Conway is where the 72nd Faulkner County Fair begins today (September 20) and runs through Saturday with a packed schedule of events. Exhibits of commercial booths, baked goods, floriculture, home economics, and educational interests are featured. Livestock judging, the midway, entertainment and the Downtown Parade are Tuesday. The various judgings, the midway and entertainment continue through Saturday. Friday’s highlight is the dog obedience exhibition with Saturday bringing livestock awards. The whole event ends at 12 a.m. on Saturday when the midway shuts down.
Did I mention all the crazy fair food? And the midway with the rides that can make you nauseous and games where you can spend $15 to win a toy you can get at Walmart for $5?  These are all the things that make fair time one of the most eagerly awaited of the year.
The fairgrounds are located off East Oak Street (U.S. 64) between the Jones Vet Clinic and Skunk Hollow Road.
