For some people, like me, the countdown to the start of the next college football season begins the day the previous season is over. Others have a little more patience. But the countdown has officially begun for the first University of Arkansas Razorback football game, Sept. 5, against the Missouri State Bears.

New this year is RazorRock, a weeklong football rally leading up to kick-off at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. RazorRock begins Monday, Aug. 31 with a Little Rock Touchdown Club luncheon at the Embassy Suites featuring Razorback Head Coach Bobby Petrino as the guest speaker. Four Arkansas Traveler baseball games during the week at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock have been designated as RazorRock festivities for fans.  Other events taking place during the time span are three get-togethers sponsored by the Arkansas Alumni Association Capital Chapter.

Friday, Sept. 4, the RazorRock Rally, featuring the University of Arkansas Marching Razorback Band, the U of A cheerleaders, pom pom squad, and Tusk, the live U of A Razorback mascot, will take place from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the foot of the Junction Bridge in downtown Little Rock.  Making its first-ever appearance will be the Razorback Navy, boaters on the Arkansas River showing their support for the Hogs. At 6:30 p.m., the band will parade across the Arkansas River to Dickey-Stephens Park and play the national anthem at the opening of the Traveler baseball game. Fireworks immediately follow the last inning.
September 5 brings tailgating at War Memorial Stadium, before, during and after the 6 p.m. kick-off.
