I am always on the lookout for new terrain to run. Luckily, a trail has recently popped on the radar that fits this criteria- the Lake Ouachita Vista Trail. Or- also affectionately known by the acronym- the LOVEiT trail. The route was created with a specific goal in mind—as a means for people to enjoy the beauty of Lake Ouachita without being in or on the water. I love being both in and on the lake as much as the next person, but as a trail runner, I was also curious to discover the lake from a new vantage point. So I decided to run the route and check out the trail system.

The supplies needed for the venture were minimal: a camelbak, ipod, and Merlin, my Weimeraner running buddy.

I hopped in my car and drove from Hot Springs towards the trailhead, taking Hwy 270 west for around 20 or so miles. I then kept a look out for Shangri-La Rd, turning right and then left onto Trail’s End Rd, a bumpy and dusty gravel laden route.
