Museum Open Houses Welcome the Holiday Season


Three Little Rock museums are hosting special events for the holidays on Sunday, Dec. 4. The Historic Arkansas Museum is where the 44th Annual Christmas Frolic takes place from 1 p.m.-4 pm. You are invited to celebrate the holiday season of yesteryear. Visitors can watch nails being forged at the new Blacksmith Shop, create tree ornaments and holiday cards, sip hot cider and enjoy ginger cake, play pioneer games, and listen to 19th century fiddle music. You can also expect a visit from Father Christmas and do some holiday shopping in the Museum Store. Plenty of free parking is available at 3rd and Cumberland Streets.

The nearby Old State House Museum has its Holiday Open House from 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. The traditions of joyous family holiday celebrations past await visitors. Colorful seasonal decorations will adorn Arkansas’s stately first state capitol building. Hands-on activities for children such as creating unique cards are offered, while local music groups perform holiday favorites. Refreshments of cookies and punch are served. Admission is free.

A Holiday Open House at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center is from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Activities include performances by local choir and theatre groups as well as a special presentation featuring the museum’s Acting Out Loud students. Children will enjoy a variety of holiday and Kwanzaa activities including refreshments. This free event also features the facility’s first annual sweet potato pie contest. Enter the contest to bring your best sweet potato pie to compete against local talent and professionals for a chance to win great prizes. The contest is free to enter.
