One Tank Travels: Mack’s Prairie Wings’ 13th Annual Fall Festival

We invite you to have “More Fun Per Gallon”  in Arkansas this year. Each day we will be blogging on different Arkansas destinations that can be reached on one tank of gas or less. This is basically every corner of The Natural State. We hope these suggestions help you in planning a trip to remember.

Today’s Trip: Mack’s Prairie Wings’ Fall Festival in Stuttgart

Mack’s Prairie Wings in Stuttgart is one of the Arkansas Delta’s most popular attractions. If you think Mack’s is just for hunters and outdoors enthusiasts, you’ve never been! They have everything from clothing to housewares to furniture. And, of course, they have everything you need for any hunting or outdoor adventure!

Considered to be the premiere waterfowl outfitter in the country, the store began in 1944 when M.T. “Mack” McCollum decided to open a sporting goods store for all the duck hunters who came each year to Stuttgart. The business was very successful and was expanded in 1970. A mail order catalog business, called Mack’s Prairie Wings, debuted in 1993. Both businesses continued to grow and, in 2000, the two combined into Mack’s Prairie Wings. The business is now housed in a 100,000-plus-square-foot building featuring 32,000-square-feet of retail space located on U.S. 63 North in Stuttgart.

For the next two weekends, Mack’s is hosting one of the company’s most popular events, the annual Fall Festival. Celebrating its 13th year, the festival is being held over the next two weekends, Aug. 18-19 and Aug. 25-26.

The schedule is packed! Saturday’s activities include a 3D archery pop-up tournament, five stand shooting, the 2012 MPW Baggo State Championship Tournament, the Avery’s Team waterdog seminar, exhibition shooting and a five stand shooting exhibition. Most likely, one of this Saturday’s biggest draws will be the meet and greet with members of the cast of A&E’s runaway hit show, Duck Dynasty. Silas (Uncle Si) Robertson, John Godwin and Justin Martin will be on hand from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. to greet visitors. Meeting the cast is free but everyone is asked to bring one can of food for the local food bank. Sunday’s events feature exhibition shooting and five-stand shooting exhibitions throughout the afternoon.

Next Saturday kicks-off with five stand shooting, the Mack’s /Avery’s Duck Dog Challenge, the Avery’s Team water dog seminar, and exhibition shooting. Sunday, Aug. 26, offers five stand shooting and more exhibition shooting.
