One Tank Travels: Wynne

We invite you to have “More Fun Per Gallon”  in Arkansas this year. Each day we will be blogging on different Arkansas destinations which can be reached on one tank of gas or less. This is basically every corner of The Natural State. We hope these suggestions help you in planning a trip to remember.

Today’s Trip: Wynne

Happy Friday to you all! Today’s “One Tank Travel” suggestion in the Arkansas Delta is Wynne.

This weekend is a great time to visit Wynne, because the town is hosting the 36th annual Farm Fest on June 8-9. The festival features barbecue cooking contests with youth and adult divisions, a rice cooking contest, the PBJ Happee Day Carnival, games for kids, arts and crafts and a variety of food vendors. Saturday evening features a performance by Blackberry Winter. Contact the Cross County Chamber of Commerce at 870-238-4183 for more details.

Without a doubt, Village Creek State Park is a must-see whenever you’re near Wynne. The park offers something for every member of the family…fishing, hiking, boating, swimming, camping, bike riding, and wildlife watching. If you’re a golfer, you need to check out the Ridges of Village Creek, an Andy Dye-designed course that rolls along the beautiful terrain of Crowley’s Ridge. The course features 18 holes now but another nine are expected to open later this year. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway, Village Creek offers camping (tent and RV) as well as fully equipped cabins. The cabins at Village Creek are one of my favorite places to stay because you’re truly surrounded by the beauty of Crowleys’ Ridge.

If you’re in town on a Tuesday or Saturday, check out the Cross County Farmers Market for a great variety of locally grown items, including flowers, fruits and vegetables. You’ll often find an array of hand-made crafts at the market as well.

If you’re a geocacher, Wynne has some great caches, including the one that took me SEVEN times to find! You can read more about my geocaching adventures in Wynne here.

When you get hungry, there are two places you need to try. Colby’s is one of my favorites in the Arkansas Delta. I especially love their breakfast! For lunch or dinner, I’d suggest a Monte Cristo or their gourmet burger. If you love onion rings, definitely try Colby’s. The menu is loaded with great items. Kelly’s Restaurant is another great place to check out. They are known for their ample buffets, especially their seafood buffet on the weekends. You’ll also find a varied menu featuring everything from sandwiches to burgers to steaks. You do not want to miss the yeast rolls! If you’re at Kelly’s on a day when chicken and dumplings is on the menu, get them!

Wherever you travel this weekend, have a great time and be safe!
