Red River Heritage Symposium

On July 24 history
buffs can hear guest lecturers speak on the historical treasures of the Great
Bend Region of the Red River during the 4th annual Red River
Heritage Symposium. The event takes place from 1-8 at Historic Washington State
Park in Washington. An evening meal is included in the conference fee, which is
$30. A teacher’s workshop (from 9 a.m.- noon) will precede this program in the
morning and costs $15. Those interested can do both for $40. Pre-registration
is required by July 21.
This year’s theme is “Trades and Merchants” and
speakers include Dr. Gary Joiner , who will talk about Arkansas History, Captain James Campbell of the Antebellum River Port Society, Mary Kwas and David
Marcus, who will talk about the Block Family, and Nina Chick, who will give a talk on the the undercover “Heroine” steamboat. For more details call Patricia Thomas 870-
