Reminiscences of Arkansas

Kimberly J. Williams
Back in September, I had the pleasure of spending a few hours at the Arkansas Rock ‘N’ Roll Highway 67 Museum with some amazing and talented musicians who played in Arkansas along the historic stretch of highway in the 1950s.

The group consisted of Jim Aldridge, Ace Cannon, J.M. Van Eaton, D.J. Fontana, Johnny Ray Hubbard and Kern Kennedy.

The talented group was in Newport for the 13th annual Depot Days and they agreed to sit down together to share their memories of playing alongside Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Jerry Lee Lewis and Sonny Burgess in the nightclubs and juke joints in Arkansas. Their stories were amazing. That day is one of the many reasons I love my job! To meet and talk with these gentlemen…it was an unforgettable opportunity!

The video podcasts were released today. In addition to the footage we collected in Newport that day, there is also a sit-down interview Dena Woerner did with Arkansas Delta native Sonny Burgess.

The stories are priceless. Check out the videos here!
