Running of Tubs Bathtub Race

Zoie Clift

Entries are now being accepted for the Fourth Annual ‘Stueart Pennington Running
Of The Tubs’ Bathtub Race taking place May 16 in Hot Springs.
The race will start in the middle of Central Avenue at the north end of
Bathhouse Row and finish at the southern end of
the row.
The event will consist of
five-member teams pushing bathtubs – on wheels-the length of the row. Any team that wants to push a
tub without wheels may apply for a special “moron waiver,” according to
regulations. Of the four members pushing the tub, one must carry a large bar of
soap, one must carry a nice bath mat, one must wear a loofah mitt and one must
carry a bath towel. The fifth member of the team must be in the bathtub, taking
a bath from the start of the race to the official finish line. Each team member
must keep one hand on the tub at all times.
According to Steve Arrison,
CEO of the CVB new rules are on the agenda this year. Even so, the rules are
also subject to sudden and unannounced changes, even after the race starts.
Basically anything goes, including water balloons, costumes and race
strategies. Entries for the race are $25 per team and are due by 8 a.m. May
8 at the Hot Springs CVB. For more information or an entry form, visit
