See Another Historic Rock in Little Rock

Kerry Kraus

Little Rock

displays one historic rock – its namesake – at La Petite Roche Plaza downtown on the Arkansas River. You can now see another historic rock – a moon rock – on exhibit at the Museum of Discovery, also in downtown Little Rock on the river.

Focal point of the exhibit is a case containing fragments from the moon, a miniature Arkansas flag, and a plaque that says “The flag of your state was carried to the Moon and back by Apollo 11 and this fragment of the Moon’s surface was brought to Earth by the crew of that first manned lunar landing.” Then President Richard Nixon gave the items to the state. Images from the Apollo 11 trip and details about the science and technology used during the voyage are also included.

The display is at the museum through April 2 and is included in the admission price. While you’re there, be sure and check out La Petite Roche Plaza and the “little rock.”
