Start the holiday weekend off with a BANG! West Memphis hosts Freedom Fest 2011 on Friday, July 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The evening starts with a performance by the Pigeon Roost String Band at 6:30. The opening ceremonies are slated for 7:15, immediately followed by music from Kenneth Jackson “Blues Man.” At 8:30, the Bartlett Community Concert Band performs a variety of crowd-pleasing, patriotic tunes.

The community-spirited celebration is held at Tilden Rodgers Park. Participants are encouraged to bring picnic suppers, lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy an evening of fun, food, and fireworks. The evening ends with a magnificent fireworks display around the park’s 11-acre lake. Log on to www.WestMemphis.org or phone 870-732-7598 for details.

I attended last year’s event and had a wonderful time! It’s a great place to take the entire family for an evening fun.

I wish you all a safe and wonderful holiday weekend!
