Up to three permits will be issued by the Army Corps of Engineers to hunters age 7 to 15. A drawing will be held at the Greers Ferry Project Office on Dec. 10. Selected hunters will be contacted by phone or mail. Each will be required to have an assistant at least 21 years of age who holds a valid hunting license and hunter education card. The young hunters will be limited to muzzleloaders only and safe access routes will be provided to all hunting blinds.
Old Highway 25 Park will be closed for all use starting Dec. 26 through Dec. 30. Deer hunting with a firearm is prohibited at Greers Ferry Lake – the only exception being this special hunt. The hunt is a management tool to help keep the area’s deer herd in proper balance. It also serves as a great opportunity for young hunters to experience a quality hunt.
Applications may be obtained at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Greers Ferry Project Office, P.O. Box 1088, Hwy 25 N., Heber Springs, AR 72543 (near the dam) or by calling 501-362-2416. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. weekdays.
