What to know

The Oct. 13, 2018 edition of the Boomtown Opry will be held at the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium (100 W. 8th St.) in El Dorado, AR at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for only $10 general admission while children 12 and under are admitted for free. The Boomtown Opry is a family friendly event with no alcohol sold during the show.   The Boomtown Opry features a house band led by BJ Kyle, who has toured professionally with Colt Ford, Craig Morgan, Tracy Lawrence, Kellie Pickler and others. Local actor/singer Steve Harrell is the MC and local country duo Southern Koast (Keith Owens and Susan Tolin) provide background vocals.

Featured performers for this show are Gene King and Heather Ponce, Gene Stewart, Anna Brinker, Annalee Purdie, Jade Kelly and the comedy of Mike Means and Charley Hankins. Gene King was the band leader for Grammy winner Jody Miller for many years and has a monthly show of his own in Winnsboro, Louisiana called the Franklin Opry. Gene Stewart recorded several 45 rpm records from the early 70s throughout the 80s and was the first country artist to record the popular song, "Rub It In." It became a regional hit for Gene two years before Billy "Crash" Craddock recorded it and made it a national hit. Annalee Purdie is a singer of classic country music with a touch of jazz and blues thrown into the mix. Jade Kelly is a singer/songwriter from the Longview, Texas, area with a new video on YouTube called “Lovesick.” Anna Brinker from Stuttgart, Arkansas, is another singer/songwriter with a brand new song and video called “The Possum” about country legend George Jones. Charley Hankins and Mike Means are members of the local improv comedy troupe “Gimme A Second” and will have you rolling in the aisles with their unique brand of humor.

Aspiring singers may audition for future shows before rehearsals on show day around 2 p.m. A portion of the proceeds of each Boomtown Opry show go to benefit the El Dorado Boys & Girls Club.
