First Thursday

Historic Downtown Fayetteville Square

What to know

First Thursday returns to the Historic Downtown Square in Fayetteville with a series of festivals each month from May to October.

First Thursday transforms the square into an outdoor arts and music celebration from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. The free, family-friendly events include a diverse lineup of live music, artist demonstrations and installations, food trucks, group bike rides and an arts market featuring more than 40 independent artists who create items in a variety of media.

The season kicks off Thursday, May 2nd with the theme “Elemental” inviting festivalgoers to explore the elements of Fire, Earth, Water, and Air. Mainstage music will feature Shannon Wurst, March to August, and 1oz Jig. Bike Fayetteville and Trailblazers will present a Slow Roll bike ride in celebration of Movement May and Art Experience will lead a festive puppet parade. Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s mobile aquarium brings visitors face to face with Arkansas native fish.

Other themes for the season include:

June 6th – Avant Garden, a celebration of all things green and blooming, where art meets nature with innovative art, music, and fashion.

August 1st – Game On, with games of all shapes and sizes, where everyone can play.

September 5th - Dog Daze: Pretty up your pooch for the return of the dog pageant and tons more fun for you and your best friend.

October 3rd - Technicolor: The Square will shine in full spectrum with dreamy lighting and activations inspired by the cinema.

Note that there will be no First Thursday on July 4th.

First Thursday is supported by community sponsors including South by Northwest Hospitality, who sponsor the food court, Gearhead Outfitters, who sponsor waste-diversion efforts, and Lewis Automotive Group, who sponsor the Kids Zone.

First Thursday takes place within an Outdoor Refreshment Area (ORA). Alcoholic beverages from ORA restaurants and bars may be carried throughout the square and the ORA designated area.
