What to know
South Arkansas Heritage Museum in located in the historic Dr. H.A. Longino House two blocks west of the Magnolia City Square. The 3,800 square foot brick building is on the National Register of Historic Places as designated by the National Park Service and is a federally designated non-profit charity institution. It assumes as its responsibility the preservation and protection of unique local artifacts including printed materials, artwork, crafts, clothing, ceramics, glass, and pottery, military memorabilia, tools, farm implements, home furnishings, and more. The museum celebrates local heritage through visual displays, genealogical research, and historical presentations. It is 100% funded through membership dues, grants, and donations, and is governed by its Board of Directors. Volunteers operate the museum including all aspects of improvement, landscaping, and day-to-day operation. Ellen's Attic Gift Shop in the museum stocks local history books and printings, T-shirts, local honey, handmade soaps and scents, handmade pinestraw coiled baskets, and local art prints. We are open to the public on Wednesdays from 10AM - 4PM, but free private tours are available any other day except Tuesday by request. Classes, church and civic groups, and families are welcomed to schedule group tours via our email at [email protected]. Donations are encouraged and accepted. Memberships and volunteer opportunities are always available.
We strive to maintain a clean and environmentally friendly property and do not allow firearms, illicit drugs, or pets. We are handicapped-accessible and have handicapped parking at the front of the building. No large purses or bags are permitted. We accept all major debit and credit cards.
The museum is open during the Magnolia Blossom Festival, which is typically scheduled for the third Saturday of May each year. We offer tours and free refreshments to our visitors and guests. Our hours that Saturday are normally 1PM-4PM, but could vary. The City of Magnolia closes West Main Street during the festival, so please be prepared to park in our back lot that day and the day before. We are closed on all federal and state holidays.
