Hidden Star
What to know
Looking to getaway, disconnect. No not completely out of reach. There is cell service if you choose to use it. Traipse off to the Hidden Star. Just 16 miles from Mount Ida center. Welcome to 'the Porch' near the Ouachita River. Bring your kayaks or side by side and do some back roadin'.
This is a special little log cabin that we constructed from 2 separate log houses from the area. One half of the cabin's logs are from a early saw mill log while the main end of the cabin are hand hewn logs from around 1880. The 10 foot wrap around porch may be the main attraction. Or it might be the lower level hot tub deck. You will also be able to park your vehicle under the detached carport.
You absolutely can not beat living in the Ouachita National Forest with the nearby Lake Ouachita and 3 exceptional rivers. Mount Ida is a friendly small town and the county seat. There is not one single stop light in the whole county.
We have some of the best hiking and biking trails around but most common mode of transportation is by motor vehicle. Lots of forest trails for side by sides. You can even rent kayaks up river and float down to the cabin or put in there and continue on down the Ouachita toward the lake.
We are the Quartz Crystal Capitol of the World here in the Ouachita National Forest where you can dig for or find some of the prettiest crystals. We are also only 38 miles from the Crater of Diamonds State Park where you keep what you find. And then there is Lake Ouachita (WAH-shi-tah). 40,000 acres of water and 690 miles of shore line. The average depth is 50 ft with the deepest area being 200 ft. One of the cleanest man-made lakes in the US, it offers endless opportunities for fishing, diving or playing on the water. Of course we also have rivers. Float down the Ouachita past the famous Camp Ozark before it spills into Lake O. Or try the Caddo for a day filled with floating and fishing from either your own or rented kayaks or canoes. Love hiking or biking? We have 3 IMBA EPIC trails. Try out some sections of the Ouachita, LOViT or the Womble trails for a true backcountry experience or just a leisure walk along the lake. Travel 31 miles east to visit Hot Springs National Park or head west 56 miles to Queen Wilhelmina State Park for some panoramic views.
