Diseases, Doctors, Patients and Pills

Jacksonport State Park’s newest courthouse exhibit, “Diseases, Doctors, Patients and Pills,” delves into the murky and sometimes quirky world of 19th century medicine. Professionals and quacks, poisons and patent medicines, treatments and tragedies appear in Jackson County’s fight against disease. Special guest, Timothy Nutt, the director of the Historical Research Center at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences will present a program on the exciting history of medicine in Arkansas. Come and find a cure for your curiosity about this unique facet of the area’s history at the Historic Jacksonport Courthouse Museum opening May 7, 2022.
