Arkansas Industry Insider Newsletter

Greetings from the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism:

We’d like to take a minute to thank you for your contributions toward making Arkansas a desirable vacation spot for our visitors and a top economic engine for The Natural State. Many of you have poured countless hours into making your establishments top-notch, and we’d like to honor those striving for excellence with more than just a pat on the back. There’s no higher honor in our industry than a Henry Award, and we encourage you to nominate a deserving individual, business or event today.

If you think you live in a cool small town, submit it for Budget Travel’s “Coolest Small Towns” search. And don’t forget to sign up for the 17th Annual Trail of Holiday Lights, which we’ll be promoting on and across the state with a dedicated magazine campaign.

These opportunities and more are detailed in this newsletter. Thanks for staying plugged in with all that’s going on in our industry. And keep up the good work!

Your Small Town Could Be the Coolest

Budget Travel is on a mission to find the top 10 communities across the nation – “towns with an edge and a heart.”

We believe some of Arkansas’s small towns are pretty cool. If you agree, visit Budget Travel’s site to enter.

Current Arkansas nominations that meet the criteria are Osceola, Pea Ridge, and Prairie Grove. If your community doesn’t qualify, log on and promote the Arkansas towns already submitted.

The town must have a population under 10,000. Ten finalists will be posted to the site in January, and a public vote will determine the winner.

Satisfied Customers Help Grow Your Business

An article in the Houston Chronicle titled “Customer Satisfaction in the Hospitality Industry” advises guest service providers to make customers their top priority for increasing business.

The story explains that saying “please” and “thank you” isn’t enough: “From receiving quick service to bending the standard practices – such as extending a guest check-out in a hotel or customizing a menu item in a restaurant – customers want to feel as if their business is appreciated.”
