Unique Lodging

Think outside the box and consider these alternatives to hotels – unique lodging options guaranteed to enhance your singles retreat, romantic getaway for two or fun family vacation. Plus, you’ll have something really cool to tweet about or post on Facebook.

Unique & Uncommon Accommodations

Have you ever considered sleeping in a primitive but modern living cave or adorable Hobbit cave, luxurious treehouse cottage or charming castle, booking a room in a cute caboose or vintage gas station, spending the night in a wildlife refuge, teepee or yurt?  All of these awesome accommodations are available in Arkansas. I kid you not!

Rent-A-Yurt is available at DeGray Lake Resort State Park, Lake Catherine State Park, Lake Charles State Park, or Petit Jean State Park. These round, high walled tents are some of the best YURTs in Arkansas, complete with electricity, wood floors, screened windows, and a door with a lock. YURTs are also equipped with cots, a lantern, stove, and ice chest. Linens are not furnished. Sleeps up to six people.

Make yourself at home – On a boat!

Want to get away from it all and love being on the water? Then choose a houseboat vacation. Your “floating hotel” provides accommodations for six to 14 guests and a variety of amenities. Plus,  waterfront views are guaranteed! Find houseboat rentals on the Arkansas River, Bull Shoals Lake, Greers Ferry Lake, Lake Ouachita and Norfork Lake. Enjoy your lake escape!

Come. Sit. Stay. Purr-fect!

Pets are part of the family, too – no need to find a boarding kennel, pet sitter or leave them home alone. Find pet-friendly lodging in Arkansas at these hotels, cabins, cottages, campgrounds, B&Bs and select Arkansas state parks. Be sure to confirm the pet policy before booking as some properties limit the size of the animal and number of animals, and may charge a non-refundable service fee per pet/per night.

Howdy, Partner. Saddle up!

Dude ranch vacations offer families a wild to mild vacation in the West, west of the Mississippi, that is. You’ll feel at home on the range with western hospitality and guest ranch activities ranging from archery to ziplines, horseback riding, hiking and catch-and-release fishing. At a working cattle ranch, you’re invited to take part in traditional cowboy chores, like feeding the cows and chickens, gathering the eggs, herding the cattle.

Green is good. Stay green!

If you are adamant about recycling and wish everyone else was as environmentally aware, then you’ll appreciate establishments that meet the requirements of the lodging industries’ Green Hotel Initiative. For starters, it’s about saving water, becoming more energy-efficient (use of solar panels, LED fixtures, for example) and recycling. Reward these green properties with your presence.
