Star Party
Lake Charles State Park
What to know
It's a Star Party! Join astronomers from the Arkansas Natural Sky Association and Arkansas State Park interpreters to gaze up at the night sky with provided telescopes. Learn about the celestial bodies above, including stars, planets, and other outer space phenomenon. A range of telescopes will be setup to allow visitors to view a number of night sky features. Learn how you can help preserve the night sky for generations to come and fight light pollution. Dress warmly, bring
binoculars and lawn chairs if you have them and be prepared to enjoy a
lovely evening under the stars. Volunteers will assist the public in viewing
star clusters and galaxies through powerful telescopes.
In the event of cloudy or rainy weather, Jeff Hoeper will present a program entitled A Very Brief History of Observational Astronomy. This program focuses on the great astronomers from Ptolemy (ca. 150 AD) through Lord Rosse (1850), the tools they used to observe the sky, and the discoveries they made at the pavilion.
When attending or arriving at the Star Party location, please use only red light and limit flashlight use.
