Kids to Parks Day

Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources

What to know

Join the staff of the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources to celebrate our national and state parks on National Kids to Park Day. Join a museum interpreter on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to noon and explore the history of South Arkansas and to learn what makes this park so unique. When oil was discovered in south Arkansas in 1921 life in the sleepy town of El Dorado boomed and surrounding towns soon began to follow suit. Learn about the science of oil, as we conduct some water and oil experiments. We will then tour the Oil Field Park to learn the history of the oil boom during the 1920s. As part of the “Art in the Park” activity, each participant will discover what they most like about the park and will paint a picture of it. These paintings could be of the landscape, an oil derrick, or even a gasoline pump, the possibilities are endless. Supplies will be provided. Reservations are required. Please contact the museum at (870) 725-2877 to reserve a place. #kidstoparks
