Walking Beams, Samson Posts and Standard Rigs, Oh My!
What to know
What is a walking beam? What is a Samson post? Let’s find out the answers to these questions at the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources. Come to the museum and explore the Oil Field Park with an interpreter, as we explore the history of the 1920s oil boom in south Arkansas. See some of the different machines that made the search for oil in south Arkansas possible and learn about the work of the oil field workers known as roughnecks. Then, construct your own two-dimensional model of an modern oil pump using cardstock and other supplied materials. This program is designed for children 5 years of age and older.
Due to limited space, the program can accommodate only 30 participants. Registration is required. Please call the museum at (870) 725-2877 to reserve a place. Covid-19 safety guidelines are in effect for guest and staff safety.
