What to know
Museum includes a collection of regional and Civil War artifacts, news clippings, photographs, and other exhibits. A Civil War diorama depicts the Engagement at St. Charles, where the single most deadly shot of the Civil War was fired. The event occurred when Confederates on the banks of the White River fired at eight union gunboats, landing a shot in the steam drum of the Mound City and causing an explosion that killed 105 of the 175 men on board.
