Striplin Woods Natural Area

A 30-acre hardwood forest displaying considerable diversity over an elevational gradient extending from blufftop down to the margin of the White River. Overcup oak forest occupies the area of the floodplain that constitutes most of the tract; water hickory, willow oak, and honey locust are the major associated species. The canopy is high, and many of the trees exceed two feet in diameter. The Bottomland Hardwood Trail begins directly behind the Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and is in two loops that can be walked in either direction. An elevated board walk, featuring four interpretive stations, provides year-round access to this flood prone old-growth forest. Park at the  Visitor Center, and the Natural Area is behind (east of) the center.
