Shire Post Mint
What to know
What does a Hobbit have in his pockets?
We are Shire Post Mint, a small, family-run coining operation located in Arkansas, USA. We specialize in licensed fantasy coinage, but we make lots of other things too.
Shire Post Mint began in 2001 when Tom bought his first antique coin press. He had a passion for coin collecting since his childhood and his years of knife-making gave him metalworking knowledge that he used to start making coins. The techniques used of hand-engraving steel dies and pressing one at a time are the same used in the 1800s and earlier. After a few years of research, refinement and building a small following online, in 2003 his work caught the eye of George R.R. Martin, who was interested in having coins made from his new series of books, A Song of Ice and Fire.
Since then, Shire Post Mint has grown from Tom's weekend project to a full blown family business. The business now holds licenses to make coins from fantasy series like JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn, Patrick Rothfuss’s The Kingkiller Chronicle, and more. We also have Moon Coins, breakable Pizza Coins, Zodiac Charms, Viking Coins, Memento Mori Coins, Decision Makers, Upcycled Bowling Ball Worry Stones, and more! We use solid metals like fine silver, copper, brass, bronze, iron, nickel, mokume-gane (a layered metal that means “wood grain metal” in Japanese), anodized niobium, and anodized titanium.
We have grown a lot over the years! We now have a retail shop in West Fork, Arkansas that is open to the public. Here we design, produce, package, and ship all of our coins. Each coin is made with love by fans for fans. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
Head upstairs for a bird's eye view of our workshop and to explore our free Mini Museum featuring history of Shire Post Mint and explanation of how we make our coins. Unfortunately, this upstairs space is not wheelchair accessible.
Tours of our workshop may be available to schedule, recommended for groups of 10+ or individuals unable to use stairs. Contact us to discuss availability. We are an active manufacturing workshop so we cannot promise availability for tours.
The property also has food and beverage vendors on site, a mural by artist Jason Jones, and a rain garden of native plants which is on the registry of Certified Wildlife Habitats as certified by the Arkansas and Federal Wildlife Federations.
